Annual Conference of the Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue , London

"It is not for you to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it…"
Pirkei Avot Ch 2, mishna 21

The RCUS aspires to support and inspire the spiritual leaders of mainstream orthodox congregations in the UK.

The RCUS’s annual conference brings together rabbinic families from across UK communities where they frequently work in isolation. At the conference, rabbanim and rebbetsens have opportunities to network with other colleagues, sharing problems and ideas for best practice to help them improve their effectiveness as spiritual leaders. The conference programme includes presentations from the UK Chief Rabbi, the Dayanim of the London Beth Din and a guest scholar in residence, usually invited from the USA or Israel.

Rabbi Dr Julian Shindler is executive director of the RCUS and co-ordinates its annual residential conference. A research biochemist by training, he received semikha from Chief Rabbi Jakobovits zt’l and served as Rabbi of a North London synagogue for 12 years. He has held a senior post at the Office of the Chief Rabbi in London since 1987.
